Microbit and KY-021 Mini reed switch module

In this article, we connect a KY-021 Mini reed switch module to our Microbit – we will use Makecode and show the JavaScript and Python output as well

The KY-021 Mini reed switch module is a If a magnetic field is detected, the two input pins are short-circuited by pulling them towards each other.

The most common type of reed switch contains a pair of magnetizable, flexible, metal reeds whose end portions are separated by a small gap when the switch is open. The reeds are sealed within a tubular glass envelope. A magnetic field from an electromagnet or a permanent magnet will cause the reeds to attract each other, thus completing an electrical circuit. The spring force of the reeds causes them to separate, and open the circuit, when the magnetic field ceases.

by default the led matrix will display an X, if you place a magnet close to the switch the display will change to a tick mark

The KY-010 light barrier module / photo interrupter module is a 3-pin module that brings its signal pin HIGH when an object blocks light from traveling between its emitter and sensor.

Microbit and KY-031 Knock Sensor

In this article, we connect a KY-031 Knock Sensor module to our Microbit – we will use Makecode and show the JavaScript and Python output as well

The KY-031 Knock Sensor module is a vibration sensor that sends a signal when a knock/tap is detected on the module.

This module consists of a spring-based sensor, a 10K resistor and a header. The spring sends a high signal when a vibration is detected.

Microbit and KY-018 Photoresistor

In this article, we connect a KY-018 LDR to our Microbit – we will use Makecode and show the JaavScript and Python output as well

The KY-018 is a Photoresistor module which can be used to measure light intensity.

The resistance will decrease in the presence of light and increase in the absence of it. The output is analog and determines the intensity of light.

The module consists of a photoresistor, a 10 k in-line resistor and header.

This resistance can be determined using a basic voltage divider, where a known voltage is divided across the 10k resistor and the unknown resistance from the LDR. Using this measured voltage, the resistance can then be calculated. This is the basic idea

In this article, we connect a KY-034 7 color flashing LED to our Microbit – we will use Makecode and show the JaavScript and Python output as well

If the  KY-034 7 color flashing LED module is supplied with voltage, a color sequence is automatically emitted by the LED. The LED has 7 different colors and thus also all resulting mixed colors.

In this article, we connect a KY-029 Dual Color LED to our Microbit – we will use Makecode and show the JavaScript and Python output as well

The KY-009 RGB Full Color LED module emits a range of colors by mixing red, green, and blue light.

This module consists of a 5050 SMD LED and a 4 pin header.

The KY-029 Dual Color LED module can emit red and green light. Its basically a smaller size but similar function to the Ky-011

In this article, we connect an KY-011 Dual Color LED to our Microbit – we will use Makecode and show the JaavScript and Python output as well.

The KY-011 Dual Color LED module can emit red and green light. You can adjust the intensity of each color using an Arduino PWM pin or simply switch the LED on/off.

Microbit and KY-020 Tilt switch

In this article, we connect an KY-020 Tilt switch from the ever popular 37 sensor kit to a Microbit

The KY-023 is a very basic tilt switch

Depending on the angle of the module, a switch closes the input pins briefly. This occurs due to the fact that there is a ball inside the switch which short-circuits a contact, depending on the position of the module.
